-
After studying botany at the University in Massachusetts, Amherst, Anthony Nappa headed to Christchurch, New Zealand to study Viticulture and Enology at Lincoln University. He went on to work as a winemaker in New Zealand, Southern Italy, California, Massachusetts, and New York. Making wine for Shinn Estate from 2007-2011 followed by Raphael Vineyards (where he is still the winemaker) introduced him to the Long Island wine industry.
In 2007 Anthony began making his own wines with his wife Sarah. Anthony and Sarah met in Christchurch, where she was spending a year abroad at Lincoln University. As a trained and experienced chef, Sarah cooks for their members only B&B, pop-up dinners, brunches, and farm & wine events.
Producing organic wines in this wet region’s climate is a feat; Anthony works closely with grower Rex Farr to keep his wines certified organic and sustainable.
According to Anthony, “Rex Farr, my grower, has endured many difficulties over the last eight years growing grapes organically and biodynamically, [which was] once thought impossible on the East End. Rex Farr Vineyard is the only Certified Organic Vineyard on Long Island. I have always made wine in the most natural way possible and I enjoy making the wines I currently make, but I also enjoy new challenges and the opportunity to do something nobody has done before. It’s part of my lifestyle to try to be a good steward of the land.”
Anthony’s goal is to produce distinctive, terroir-expressive, genuine Long Island wines. His range of wines showcases what can be done with dedication in this appellation.

Anthony Nappa Wines sources its grapes for Bordo Antico from the vineyards of Rex Farr, Long Island’s only certified organic grower. Farr goes beyond organic viticulture, practicing biodynamic methods as well. Farr has studied the work of Rudolf Steiner, whose principles founded the field of biodynamics. According to Farr, “I’m 100 percent convinced I’m able to do my organic production because I’m ‘setting the table’ with this procedure.”
Grapes for Anthony’s other wines are sourced from various vineyards around the North Fork of Long Island. He strives to work with the best vineyards, and only selects those that are certified sustainable.

According to Anthony, “At Anthony Nappa Wines, we are crafting premium wines representing New York’s unique climate and soils. Based on the North Fork of Long Island, winemaker Anthony Nappa creates remarkable wines from the best vineyards in New York. Our family winery makes wines with no additives, unadulterated and straightforward, with honest marketing and labeling to allow our wines to shine their best on their own. The grapes that grow in our maritime climate and our handcrafted approach produce distinctive wines. Combining new world technology and old-world traditions we focus on accentuating the full expression of the wine grown in this place.”
