Farrm Wine

  • Farrm Wine is a testament to Rex and Connie Farr's dedication to organic and biodynamic farming practices. Since 1985, their commitment to sustainability has been evident in their absence of chemical use. In fact, they were the first certified organic/biodynamic farm on Long Island in 1990.

Their land yields not only grapes, but also a bounty of herbs, small fruits, and a diverse array of organic vegetables. In 2005, the Farrs expanded their agricultural passion with the planting of an 8.5-acre vineyard featuring four Bordeaux grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petite Verdot.

The first Farrm Wine vintages emerged from the 2012 harvest, a limited release of just two exceptional wines: Farrm Reserve and Farrm Rosé. These wines are a true expression of "terroir," capturing the unique essence of the North Fork of Long Island.

  • Farrm Wine's vineyard transcends rows of vines; it's a vibrant ecosystem where meticulous care and a touch of mystery converge. The winery embraces biodynamic farming, a method pioneered by Rudolf Steiner in 1920, to cultivate the highest quality grapes. This holistic approach prioritizes harmony with nature, emphasizing the moon's influence on tides and fostering biodiversity within the vineyard.

Only the ripest grapes make it into Farrm Wines. Dedicated to meticulous hand-harvesting, it takes 220 days and a staggering 25 tasks to produce nearly three tons of grapes per acre. This dedication results in wines that truly embody both the meticulous care taken and the unique character of the North Fork terroir.

  • Farrm Wine adheres to the principles of biodynamics, a meticulous approach considered by some as the pinnacle of organic farming. This philosophy emphasizes understanding the complex relationship between celestial cycles, like the moon's influence on tides, and their impact on the vineyard's ecosystem.

Over a 220-day period, the grapes undergo a meticulous journey, requiring 25 distinct tasks and a touch of good fortune to reach harvest. Each acre typically yields roughly 3 tons of grapes.

Once hand-picked at peak ripeness, the grapes embark on their next chapter under the watchful eye of the winemaker. Destemming, maceration, fermentation, and finally bottling – each step plays a crucial role in crafting Farrm Wine's story-filled bottles.
