Galen Glen: A Family's Pioneering Spirit
Rooted in Innovation: Nestled outside the Lehigh Valley, Galen Glen thrives in a challenging microclimate. Founded in 1995 by Galen (vine whisperer) and Sarah Troxell (acclaimed winemaker), the winery is now a family affair with daughter Erin (sustainability champion) leading the viticulture team.
Pioneering Spirit: Galen Glen's legacy is built on innovation. They were the first east-coast winery to commercially plant Grüner Veltliner grapes in 2003.
A Symphony of Skills: Sarah's meticulous touch and ability to work with diverse grapes are hallmarks of Galen Glen wines. Combined with Galen's technical expertise and Erin's sustainable focus, the winery delivers a truly unique experience.

Erin Troxell, who joined the family farm in 2017 after earning degrees in viticulture and enology from Cornell and the Vinifera EuroMaster program, sees a clear connection between Galen Glen and European wine regions. "Our climate and soil share similarities with Austria and Germany," she explains. "The high slate content in our soil is typical of German regions, while some areas feature a blend of slate and sandstone, resembling the Austrian loess ideal for Grüner grapes."
The winery itself emphasizes its commitment to sustainable viticulture. "At Galen Glen," they say, "we farm wine. Ancient glacial soils rest upon millions-year-old sea fossils, shaping our unique topography. This land patiently awaited us, offering only meager harvests to our ancestors. As sixth-generation stewards, we strive for a sustainable and respectful balance between nature and science."

Galen Glen's sustainably-produced wines showcase a captivating interplay between acidity and ripeness, all underscored by a distinctive sense of place. Their vineyards encompass both classic vinifera grapes and innovative hybrid varieties.
