Inspired by friends in the industry, Peter & Patricia Lenz embarked on a new adventure in 1977. They purchased North Fork land and planted grapes, patiently waiting for their roots to develop before producing their first wines in 1983. Their commitment to quality continued under Peter & Deborah Carroll, who took over in 1988. Together with winemaker Eric Fry and vineyard manager Sam McCullough, they've established The Lenz Winery as a leader in producing rich, complex, and age-worthy wines.

Founded in 1978, The Lenz Winery boasts 70 acres across three vineyard sites. They cultivate nine different vinifera grape varieties, with a focus on Chardonnay and Merlot.

Sustainability is a priority, but they employ a pragmatic approach. While they utilize "green" practices like cover crops, they acknowledge the need for occasional conventional methods to effectively manage pests. This balanced approach ensures healthy vines and ultimately, high-quality wines.

During his tenure as Lenz Winery's winemaker from 1989 to 2016, Eric Fry played a pivotal role in shaping their signature style. He championed a philosophy of showcasing the inherent qualities of each grape varietal. "I prefer varietal wines," Fry stated. "There's a beauty in letting the character of the grape shine through, like with Merlot." This dedication to varietal expression has become a hallmark of The Lenz Winery's wines.
