Midland

  • In 2007, the Jordan family and their friends embarked on their viticultural journey, planting their inaugural vineyard at Mount Airy Farm in Fort Defiance, Virginia. Originally, Ted Jordan's carpentry enterprise, Midland Construction, established in the 1970s, bore the family's labor and passion. In 2016, Ted passed the torch of the vineyard endeavor to his three sons, Ben, Gray, and Tim, who now oversee the vineyard operations and winemaking. The moniker "Midland" pays homage to their heritage of manual craftsmanship, symbolizing the toil and dedication invested in cultivating a familial wine enterprise amidst the undulating landscapes of the Shenandoah Valley.

  • Mount Airy Block 1, planted in 2007, initially featured six experimental grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Riesling, and Gruner Veltliner, which remain integral to our vineyard today. Mount Airy Block 2, established from 2008 to the present, functions as our experimental and training ground, featuring a field blend of Riesling and Petit Manseng. Mount Airy Block 3, planted in 2016, hosts a diverse array of varietals such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Petit Manseng, Cabernet Franc, Blaufränkisch, and Noiret. The Leaport section, planted from 2023 onwards, showcases promising varieties like Merlot Kanthus and Savagnin. The farm, deeply rooted in family history, is a testament to the family’s commitment to stewarding Mount Airy Farm for future generations, carrying on the legacy of their grandfather's agricultural heritage.

  • Midland embodies a deliberate commitment to craftsmanship and quality. They aspire for their dedication to resonate with an audience, sustaining their family venture beyond mere short-term goals.
