Paumanok Vineyards
-
Established on Long Island's North Fork, Paumanok Vineyards is a family-owned winery with a deep commitment to quality. Charles and Ursula Massoud began their journey in 1983, meticulously growing grapes and selling them throughout the 1980s. Inspired by a stellar 1988 vintage, they built their own winery in 1990, passing the torch to the next generation.
Today, Kareem Massoud serves as both winemaker at Paumanok and President of Long Island Wine Country. He also oversees winemaking at neighboring Palmer Vineyards. Paumanok's philosophy remains rooted in sourcing the finest grapes from their 80-acre estate. Their dedication is evident in their diverse portfolio, featuring New York's only Chenin Blanc alongside Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Bordeaux varietals.

Paumanok Vineyards prioritizes quality over quantity. They cultivate only premium vinifera grape varietals – Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, the unique New York Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. To achieve concentrated fruit flavors for their wines, they utilize a high-density planting approach, placing 1100 to 1400 vines per acre. Furthermore, Paumanok remains committed to using solely estate-grown grapes for their limited production of under 12,000 cases annually.

Paumanok Vineyards embraces a philosophy that prioritizes exceptional grapes as the foundation for exceptional wines. Winemaker Kareem Massoud echoes a sentiment shared by many – "wine is made in the vineyard." Paumanok believes there's no shortcut to using the healthiest, ripest fruit available.
This philosophy translates into a minimalist approach in the winery. Their "Minimalist" range exemplifies this dedication, featuring wines made without inoculation and with minimal sulfite additions.
